KTV has been successful in breaking the monopoly of the government-owned Nepal Television. KTV owes this success to the simplicity and credibility of its content. Programmes such as ‘Fireside’ ‘Call Kantipur’ ‘Tough Talk’ , ‘Sarokar’ and BBC-produced ‘Sajha Sawal’, among hundreds others, are carefully chosen to cater to people from all walks of life. One of KTV’s most viewed programmes includes daily news reports. With more than a hundred reporters on ground and with the policy of thoroughly verifying reports, KTV is the most trusted source of information on current events.
Apart from hard-hitting news and talk shows, KTV features social drama, musical shows and a variety of creative programmes. It has broadcast live recordings of musical performances, and has picked up raw talent and turned them into recording artists. It has provided real-time updates during elections. And it has injected fresh energy to live broadcasts of sports events. Its responsibility towards the Nepali people is such that even when calamities strike–like the great earthquake in April 2015–its transmission remained uninterrupted.
